Motorists who financed their cars could be entitled to share in billions of pounds in compensation following a landmark legal ruling.

In 2017, Marcus Johnson, 34, from Cwmbran, Torfaen, purchased his first car, a Suzuki Swift, but was never informed that the car dealership was receiving a 25% commission, which was added to his repayment amount.

In a significant case involving Johnson and two other claimants, the Court of Appeal ruled in October that the finance company must repay the hidden commission, along with interest. Johnson is now set to receive over £3,200 in compensation.

Neither Trade Centre Wales nor FirstRand, the parent company of MotoNovo Finance, have commented on the matter.

LATEST IN CRYPTO

Following President-elect Donald Trump’s decisive victory, Bitcoin surged past $85,000, setting a new record and fueling optimism for a more relaxed regulatory landscape under his administration. This crypto boom coincides with the launch of BetHog, a new cryptocurrency sportsbook and casino co-founded by former FanDuel executives Nigel Eccles and Rob Jones. BetHog officially debuted with $6 million in seed funding, led by 6MV, a venture capital firm specializing in gaming and Web3 technologies. Eccles, now the CEO, expressed his ambition to push the boundaries of the crypto casino industry with innovative games and a focus on fun, alongside strong VIP offerings.

TECH

As federal lawmakers return to Washington, tech policy is a priority, with particular focus on artificial intelligence and online child safety. Though comprehensive AI legislation is unlikely soon, smaller proposals may be incorporated into broader bills, like defense spending measures, before the year ends. This will be the first session since President-elect Donald Trump's victory, which is already having an impact on Capitol Hill.
