Middle-Class Relief: Schools Restructure Aid to Address Tuition Challenges

Emily Kayser, a teacher, finds the thought of covering her son Matt’s college tuition overwhelming. Touring Colby College in Maine, she reflects on how rising costs leave middle-class families like hers stuck—earning too much to qualify for need-based aid but not enough to comfortably afford college. Inflation has made things worse, driving up prices for essentials like food and gas. Federal data shows the net cost of college for middle-income families has risen 12–22% since 2009, compared to just 1% for lower-income families. To address this, some private schools, including Colby, are now offering targeted financial aid to middle-class families. Starting next fall, Colby will cap tuition, room, and board at $10,000 annually for families earning up to $100,000 and $15,000 for those earning between $100,000 and $150,000—a significant reduction from the current $53,000 price tag.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang Thrills Indian Tech Fans with His Visit

Nvidia’s leather-jacket-wearing CEO Jensen Huang received a rock star welcome at the company’s AI summit in Mumbai on Thursday, with passes selling out and tech enthusiasts spending thousands of rupees to attend. The scene mirrored the “Jensanity” witnessed in places like Taiwan, as Huang’s popularity grows alongside Nvidia’s soaring earnings and multi-trillion-dollar market valuation. The event, where Nvidia announced plans to supply AI chips to Reliance Industries and other Indian firms, was delayed by over 30 minutes due to the massive crowd, estimated to be in the thousands. “It was like a Coldplay concert, but for tech bros,” said Yuvraj Mehta, a robotics engineer from an AI startup in Nvidia’s incubation program.
